Learn about Michael and his experience.
Thanks for visiting!
I’m Michael, a professional freelance writer, editor, and proofreader servicing organizations operating in B2B, SaaS, marketing, HR, tech, and management.
Working with a freelance writer can be nerve-wracking. After all, your business is your baby, and trusting something as important as your brand’s voice to an outsider doesn’t come easy. You need a partner who understands your unique value propositions, audience segments, and communicative style. You need someone who can captivate your audience while showcasing your products and services. Your needs are at the core of my mission and values as a freelance writer.
My Mission
I bring human-first writing, editing, and proofreading services to business owners, content managers, and marketing directors because your business deserves high-quality content in every corner of your operations.
“Michael has produced content of such caliber that he has earned a spot in our carefully-selected priority pool—a feat that took other priority writers a year or more!”
— Andi Coombs, Senior SEO Manager
My Values
I believe in making life for my clients as easy as possible. Therefore, my values include:
Constant and clear communication
Honest and productive feedback
Flawless adherence to deadlines
Human-first content delivery
What I’ve Accomplished
Became a senior writer after only nine months of contributing to my first publication.
Achieved priority-writer status after less than a year of contributing to marketing agencies.
Produced more than 500 pieces for various publications in less than three years.
Tested and reviewed hot new tech, like computers, telescopes, and networking components.
Significantly improved the SEO ranking for every client I’ve worked with.
Covered breaking press releases from companies like Apple.
Achieved President’s or Vice President’s list each semester in college.
Approved to a master’s degree program before graduating from undergrad program.
My Professional Experience
After more than ten years of working as a restaurant manager, I decided it was time to pursue my passion—writing. In 2021, I took the professional plunge and began my career as a freelance writer, tackling topics related to cars and motorcycles. Since then, I’ve produced content about travel, food, sports, business, management, finance, tech, marketing, human resources (HR), DEI, SaaS, and B2B.
Management Experience
Before my career as a writer, I spent nearly a decade as a restaurant manager. That work forced me to adopt an ownership mentality, giving me valuable experience managing high-level finances, including budgets, profit & loss, cost of goods (cogs), capital expenditures, cash flow, EBITDAR, site-ride reporting, inventory management, and revenue.
In addition to the financial responsibilities, my positions involved a healthy dose of Human Resources, including recruiting, hiring, training, and people development. My skills as a communicator made me exceptionally skilled at developing new managers, allowing me to promote seven individuals to salaried management positions.
Education
I took a backward approach to education, but it’s served me well thus far. After high school, I attempted to go to college unsuccessfully. So, I set out to work, resulting in more than a decade of experience in restaurants. After the pandemic raised uncertainties about the future, I decided it was time to get serious about my education.
I returned to college in the summer of 2020 and received my Associate’s degree in English in the fall of 2022. After a year of focusing on my writing career, I returned to get my Bachelor’s degree. The communication department at UCCS accepted my admission into the Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP), which I will graduate with a Master’s in Communication in the fall of 2025.
Future Goals
My love of education and research, combined with my years of management experience, make me uniquely suited to support businesses of all kinds. I plan to grow my freelance writing business into a fully-fledged production house capable of delivering content that gets businesses in front of their audiences. Join me on that journey!
My Personal Interests
Life isn’t always about work, and there are plenty of things that I like to experience in my free time. I enjoy spending time with my son and enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors as much as possible. We hike, swim, and camp in the summer and snowboard in the winter. I’m also an avid traveler, and no journey takes too long if the destination is worthwhile!
